Don’t explain. Your friends don’t need it, and your enemies won’t believe you anyway. 

I got this in a fortune cookie decades ago and never forgot it. The intention, of course, is not to promote an attitude of contempt. It’s more about an intention to be clear without assuming what it is that another might or might not understand. And to be open to questions in case they arise.
