So, defining what it means to “do right by our kids” (or anyone) might be simpler than we think. What if it means doing your best and focusing on the effort rather than the outcome? Imagine the gift you're giving them by embodying sincerity: 'I'm here, I'm interested, and my goal is to do my very best from where I stand.' This approach allows them to grow up seeing that attitude and knowing they have the option to adopt it, too. It's impossible to cater to everyone's perceived needs. Wouldn't it be wonderful if they learned by example? And that example is just about being sincere and doing your best. Cut yourself some slack—no one has everything perfectly under control.
