∞ I FEEL: The Whisper Before The Touch
Hover your hands one inch above the client’s back.
Feel warmth, breath, and the slow tide under your palms.
Wait until the tissue invites contact.
This is a short practice for massage therapists to prevent burnout and stay grounded through somatic awareness, so you can sustain presence with every client. After doing the practice, turn inward and ask these questions, letting the body answer in its own time.
How do I feel right now? (quiet, expectant, centered, patient, focused)
Where do I feel it? (abdomen, chest, arms, hands, jaw, feet)
What does it look like? (weight, pulse, flicker, temperature, color, texture)
What am I grateful for now? (hand on heart, longer exhale, stay in the question)
Use this: In session, ~90 seconds
Waiting refines contact and reduces effort.
Treat this as discovery, not a fixed goal.
Return to it through the week and notice one small shift each time.
These are weekly challenges as a way to practice the art of staying well while you give.
Somatic Mindfulness teaches massage therapists to turn self-care into a skill.
